Cumberland Fishing Float Tube Review

Cumberland Fishing Float Tube Review

I recently reviewed Togiak Float Tube, the best budget-friendly float tube in the market. Hundreds of people loved it, so I thought, why not step up.

So, here I am with Togiak’s big brother, the Cumberland Float tube, which is Classic Accessories’s best float tube.

Comparatively, it’s longer, studier, comfier, and can handle more weight. The most noticeable thing here is the long seat and high visibility. Cumberland offers an extra high seat for a drier fishing experience. Of course, you won’t be 100% dry, but it does the work far better than other floats.

You are almost entirely out of the water; only the seat of your shorts may get wet. The added height also makes it easy to sight fish and fish beds. Plus, it resists your elbows from digging in the bladder, unlike other floats.

This float has an abrasion-resistant PVC bottom that easily withstands “harsh” outdoor use. I have hit everything from treetops to rocks, but float tube bounces right off them without issue. For high visibility, this thing has an orange panel at the back.

These neon orange panels make it easily visible from far away, which can be very helpful at times. Now, apart from height, even comfort has increased.

Its thickly padded seat, along with the adjustable backrest, makes it comfy. This thing has adjustable straps that let you adjust the angle of your seat. So, you can sit; however, you prefer within seconds. It’s not the most comfortable seat in the market, but not bad either.

You may have to pull up and stretch out sometimes, but that’s every chair’s story. From my experience, I’d say it’s perfect, and I love it. Now, let’s talk about one of the crucial things for any fishing enthusiast – Storage Space. This float tube offers 4 zippered and one setback storage pocket.

It includes two interior zip pockets and two zippered cargo pockets. The numbers may look less, but each pocket is spacious and offers plenty of storage space. This is what one user has to say about the pockets.

“I usually dedicate one storage side to baits and the other to drinks, snacks, hook outs, pliers, fish grips, action cam, deeper sonar, towel if need be.”

So, don’t worry about storage since the pockets are on the bladder; it’s easily accessible, unlike other tubes where your elbows dig in the bladder. Apart from pockets, the bladder also has two drink holders for keeping your cans, bottles, and snacks.

The big mesh pocket at the rear lets you store large items that can’t fit inside the zipper pockets, including PFD, pump and hose, etc. This mesh storage remains mostly underwater, so don’t put anything you don’t want to get wet. I personally put my PFD at the bottom and rest on top.

And don’t worry, the drawcord closure will keep the things safe inside. If you still have some gear left, the D-rings on the side can help. You can use them for attaching gears and creel bags. It has two-rod holders where you can fish with one and keep the spare rod on the other.

To make it clear, the rod holders are the velcro straps alongside the storage pouches, on the side closest to you. Dimension-wise, it’s 56″L x 44″W x 19” H, which is quite Roomy yet easy to maneuver. It only weighs 14 lbs but can carry up to 350 lbs.

Of course, the weight adds when you add gears and baits, but it never gets super heavy. Cumberland float has a mesh stripping apron with a fish ruler on the front to quickly view the fish’s length. It quickly tells how good your game is going.

The PVC crossbar at the front maintains the width and ensure efficient flotation. But you have to be very careful while setting it up. It has a bib attached to it, which is pointed. You always want to set it into the sleeves, so it goes correctly. Do it incorrectly, and you could get a tear in the bladder.

Now, you don’t want your fishing trip ruined because of a stupid hole, right? So, I have three solutions for you. First is, of course, to set it up carefully. The other two are “real” solutions. Since it’s only a PVC bar, you can buy a new one from the market, carve it enough to not have pointed edges and attach it.

But all the work can be overwhelming, so there is a third solution too. Take some duct tape or epoxy, and cover the sharp ends of the PVC crossbar. The tape will dull the edges, so you don’t have to worry every then and now. A cheap, easy DIY solution. The other pro-tip I have for you is –

Get some good UV protectant for your boat. Constant exposure to the sun reduces its longevity, so it is crucial to add some UV protection. I personally use 303 Marine Aerospace Protectant as it applies quickly and dries with a nice glossy finish that you will love.

This float comes with a year of warranty, so Classic Accessories got you covered if anything goes wrong. And they do stand behind their products.

Features of Cumberland Float Tube

Weighing 14 lbs, it has a weight capacity of 350 lbs, which is more than enough. It has a soft, thick adjustable seat that’s not only comfier but also at a great height. This is the perfect height I expect from any float tube; it’s just perfect. You are almost out of the water and can quickly spot the fishes and fish beds.

Plus, it keeps your arms up and makes sure they don’t dig in the bladder. Its nice big bladders provide good buoyancy and keep you safe inside. Made from sturdy material, this float is rugged.

It can withstand most outdoor elements without any problem. Its lightweight makes it easy to carry, while the shoulder straps help you quickly transport it. The straps are crucial when you need to carry them for more than 20 feet.

This tube has plenty of pockets, rod holders, and D-rings, which provides ample storage space. Plus, a big mesh pocket at the back for big items. All in all, you get more than enough storage space.

It comes with a year of warranty, so if anything goes wrong, you are covered.

What I like about this float tube?

Best Fishing Float Tubes - Cumberland fishing float

While I love this float tube, there are particular things I like about it, and below I listed them all.

Year of Warranty –

When buying something this costly, we expect good quality and years of service. However, sometimes the product doesn’t work as expected. Maybe your float came with a leak out of the box and stuff like that. Basically, things that make your float tube ineffective.

In that case, you expect the company to help, but most of them don’t, especially the ones offering cheap floats. But Classic Accessories provide a year of warranty and stand by that. If anything goes wrong, contact them, and they will send you a replacement or parts within no time.

“They have always been quick to send me replacement parts if need be, or a new float tube if need be, and it has been without hassle. They stand by their products.”

— Cumberland User

So, the warranty assures me that I am getting the right product.

Plenty of Storage –

Of course, when going fishing, it’s the first thing you need – Storage area, plenty of it. And this fishing float tube gives you just that. You get a couple of zippered pockets, a mesh pocket at the back, cup holders, rod holders, D-ring, etc., for storing your things.

I am delighted with the ample area, and I don’t think you’ll ever need more space than it offers. All the small to medium items fit inside the bladder’s pockets while the big go at the back.

You even get a mesh apron with a fish ruler for keeping the fish, so you don’t have to worry about carrying a lot of gears. Everything stores efficiently without any mess.

Light and Easy to Transport –

As I said, it weighs only 14 pounds, which is quite lightweight. But once inflated, it becomes bigger, making it difficult to carry and transport, especially if the distance is over 20 feet.

Then, the shoulder backpack straps can be pretty useful. It allows you to carry this giant float like a school bag. It might look weird, and you might get some interesting looks, but it works.

It’s actually funny how people think I am carrying something heavy while it’s all air.

Highly Visibile –

One of the improvements I saw here is about visibility. Since the seat is extra high, it makes you easily noticeable from a good distance from other boaters and fishers.

And the high visibility orange flap at the back increases visibility from the back, preventing water accidents and stuff. Plus, your buddies can know your location instantly.

Comfortable and Adjustable Backrest –

It is what I LOVE here. The backrest on this thing is adjustable; you can actually use the straps to tighten or loosen it. So, you can adjust the angle of your seat whenever and however you like.

If you want it straight, there you go, and the same goes for other angles. This feature is handy when you are planning to fish for a long. You can simply tilt it, relax and fit.

This thing is important to ensure your back remains good, and you can focus on fishing rather than going out and stretching a bit.

What I don’t like about the float tube?

What do you think about Cumberland float tube

There isn’t anything I dislike about the float, but I wish it came with a cover.

People Review About Cumberland Float Tube

“Thus really is a great tube. Its built like a tank. Very durable, floats, and seats you high. The two pockets are huge and come with cupholders! It may have sounded like I picked the tube apart, but I really do love it. Compared to my old tube, its like moving from a Yugo to a Mercedes. It has a few shortcomings, but all tubes do, and they are easily remedied. Its not a bass boat; its a minimalist way of getting off the shore.”

–Cumberland User

“I weigh 320 pounds.’ This tube is awesome. I’m barely in the water. no feeling like I was gonna tip forward like I read before. Just sit down don’t plop your butt down. I did and flipped over ‘ I posted this for guys my size looking for the right tube . It’s great”
