3. Vortex New Grey 24 FT Pontoon Snow Cover –

Whenever I talk about pontoon covers, this cover from Vortex always secures the top three positions. And here we go again. Made from 600D marine-grade canvas, this cover is coated twice with polyurethane on the bottom, which adds sturdiness and protection.

The 600D adds strength while PU makes it sun, water, and Mildew protected. Its material can withstand snow without any problem. But remember one thing. This cover is 600D, while the next two on the list are 1200D, so it’s half denser and thicker than the other two; however, it still works with a bit of trick.

Although it can withstand the weight of snow, too much can break the straps or maybe the material. Two things should be done – Keep it raised and open the straps. Once the snow pools in and liquidize, re-attach the straps, and water will drift down.

Believe me, it works. Since this cover is breathable, water vapor can permeate it, resisting Mold and Mildew growth. This cover has 12 straps that keep it secure, while the elastic cord makes it snug from the bottom. Both combined to ensure it won’t blow during high winds.

Another plus factor is that it’s a tri-purpose cover to use it for storage, mooring, and trailering. It’s even the top pontoon mooring cover. Finally, it comes with a 5-year warranty, which signifies that Vortex really trusts its product.

Pros

  • Sturdy and secure
  • Sun, water, and mildew are protected.
  • Protects from outdoor elements
  • 12 straps and elastic cord for safety
  • Tri-purpose cover
  • 5-year warranty

Cons

  • Not as sturdy as the next two covers

  • TRI-PURPOSE COVER/STORAGE/MOORING/TRAILERING

2. Budge 1200 Denier Pontoon Snow Cover –

Made from 1200 D polyester, this cover is perfect for harsh winter conditions. Its sturdy material easily withstands heavy snow and keeps your pontoon safe inside. The best part is that you can use it in any season, not only in winter.

Apart from snow, it also defends against sun, rain, dirt, dust, driving winds, etc. It’s UV, Mildew, and water protected. So, you don’t have to buy separate covers year-round. The sewn-in air vents make it breathable and resist the spread of mold, rust, and mildew.

You will like its pretty sky blue color that looks more like canvas art. It offers plenty of straps and an elastic hem cord for safety, both sewn in the material to add an extra layer of protection. They secure the boat tight and ensure a snug fit.

Even the seams are taped to make them durable and resist entering the water. This thing is fantastic, fully protected from top to bottom with high-quality material. But there is one problem – the tape isn’t UV resistant.

By tape, I mean the black grosgrain ribbon that covers the seams. Since it isn’t UV resistant, it deteriorates in heavy sun exposure and exposes the stitching beneath.

However, that isn’t a problem as you are looking for a winter cover, so I guess the sun isn’t that cruel at your location. This cover fits pontoon boats 20’-24’ long with beam width up to 110”.

Pros

  • Sturdy and pretty
  • UV, rain, Mildew resistant
  • Perfect for the Harsh winter situation
  • Sewn-in straps and buckles, taped seams
  • Protects from harmful outdoor elements

Cons

  • Seam tape isn’t UV resistant

  • WATERPROOF INSIDE AND OUT: Reinforced, waterproof seams keep moisture out. Sewn-in air vents keep condensation from accumulating
  • COVER STAYS IN PLACE: Our elasticized hem, sewn-in straps and buckles keep your cover in place. Great for trailer use and outdoor storage

1. EmpireCovers Aqua Armor Pontoon Boat Covers –

After three months of testing in the snow, and it exceeded my expectations. Since it’s 1200 Denier polyester, I knew it would hold good, but I never thought this good. It has been in high winds, rains and snow, but it tackled all of it. It’s quite heavy; just by lifting it, you’ll know that it will last long.

Being heavy also means that it’s better with two people. Its dense material protects your boat from rain, water, snow, mildew, leaves, etc. So, not only in winter, you can use it in any weather. Now, it has one problem that I need you to know – it’s not fully waterproof.

It is water-resistant, not waterproof, so some drops may enter through the material and the seams when it rains. But things are different for snow. If you keep it raised, most of the snow will fall. But of course, I can’t ignore the fact that water will enter it once it melts.

So, I recommend using some waterproofing spray like this one from Star Bright. It will make it fully waterproof and ensure it doesn’t penetrate. Once done, it works like a charm. This cover has plenty of straps that go entirely under your pontoon and secure it tightly. Plus, the elastic cord keeps it snug.

Personally, I felt that it’s not tight enough, but that’s my personal opinion. Another complaint I have is not having any instruction manual. It’s a piece of cake for me to install it, but a new owner won’t understand what to do with the cuts and grommets at the back.

I love this, the material is sturdy, and it holds very well. Yes, the waterproofing problem is there, but it’s for you if you are cool with that.

Pros

  • Sturdy and highly visible
  • Can work in any weather
  • Protects from outdoor elements
  • Plenty of straps and elastic hem cord

Cons

  • Not fully waterproof

Things To Consider –

Best Pontoon Boat Snow Cover- Reviews of the Top 5 Mooring Covers

There are different types of boat covers available in the market. But you need to select the one that protects your boat perfectly in winters. If the weather is cold, you have to take many precautions to protect your pontoon boat.

A superior quality cover on your boat offers many benefits. It keeps debris and leaves from clogging scuttles and causing the boat to flood when the snow melts. It also keeps snow away from the cockpit and protects the deck from the pooling water, leading to damage and delamination.

But when you are buying a pontoon snow cover, you need to consider certain things which will guide you to make the right choice.

1. Materials –

Material is crucial to consider while buying a pontoon cover as it determines the cover’s longevity. The fabric from which the cover is made helps to figure out if it will be able to survive the strong winter winds.

Polyester and acrylic fabrics are considered the best option for snow covers, especially for long-term storage. They allow the air to pass through, resist the sun’s UV rays and survive high temperatures.

Though they are a little expensive, they are durable, long-lasting, and come with solid straps. Another fabric that is considered ideal for pontoon boats is polypropylene, a multilayer material that is breathable and waterproof. It is also more resistant to tearing and ripping.

Moreover, you need to select reinforced switching, which is water and snow-resistant. Make sure your cover is accurately and tightly stitched so that the buckles and sewn-in straps can keep your boat secure during windy weather.

2. Colors –

Another thing to consider before purchasing a snow cover for pontoon boats is the color of the boat. Dark shades such as black, green, and blue absorb more heat and hence would melt the snow.

Plus, they last longer than the light colors due to the high amount of dye in them. Therefore, most people prefer dark colors over light as they provide better protection from snow.

It is vital to take care of your boat during the winter because if the snow is not melted and gets engulfed over your boat, it can cause significant damage to your pontoon boat.

3. Denier –

Denier is a unit of weight that measures the fineness of rayon, nylon, or silk. Usually, 1200 denier is the highest you will find that will safeguard your boat against the snow. The higher-denier fabric is abrasion-resistant and long-lasting.

Additionally, a ripstop cover provides unmatched protection to your boat in all types of weather as it has a higher denier. It is made from sturdy ripstop polyester, a piece of fabric resistant to ripping and tearing.

4. The Right Fit –

When purchasing boat covers, ensure that they fit your boat perfectly well. It is essential because if it doesn’t fit your boat, then there is a high chance that snow will enter your pontoon. If that happens, your boat can be in serious trouble.

It’s best to measure your boat accurately before you go shopping for boat covers. A snug fit is vital, so measure your boat from the tip of the bow to the stern and the width of the beam.

This will help you figure out the size of the boat to buy the right snow cover.

5. Review –

Sometimes reviews play a significant role in making the correct choice. With different brands of covers available in the market, it may become difficult to decide. Reviews can help as they will provide all the necessary details related to the product and the manufacturer.

It is advisable to read customer reviews of the covers as they would contain information that will let you know the pros and cons of different canopies. In short, they will help you to make choices or an informed choice.
