5. Universal Boat Adjustable Storage Cover –

If you want a cheap cover that offers decent protection, then this one from Pyle is a great option. Even though it’s cheap, I personally feel it’s value-for-money. This thing has a lot of good things that made it to this list.

Made from polyester hurricane fabric, it has the sturdiness your boat needs. Plus, the Marine grade fabric coating on top ensures maximum weather resistance. This coating makes it Mildew and UV resistant.

So, your pontoon is safe from the harsh sun and ugly Mildew; however, it’s not entirely safe from the water. It only resists water, not repel it. Since it’s water-resistant, some water can get it and cause Mold. Plus, cleaning the mess is another headache. So, I would say – it’s best for storage only.

But if you’re persistent in using it outside, I will recommend the same Waterproofing spray I did earlier. It will do the magic and everything combined; it’s still cheaper than other covers. Although the material is strong, it’s not as sturdy as others.

Don’t expect it to last for years as you get what you pay for. However, you can increase its life by reinforcing the material wherever it touches the support pole. This thing can rip from those poles. Again, it’s not that sturdy. It offers an adjustable transom flap that might cover your motor as well.

It has adjustable buckle straps, an elastic hem cord, and a robust rope system for safety. The rope goes right through the D-ring and secures it tightly while the elastic cord makes it snug. It is available in a universal size(17′-20′ Trailer).

You can also check its newer version; you might like it. The worst thing here is the lack of instructions. Without them, it becomes a bit cumbersome to figure out everything. This cover comes with a 2-year warranty and a storage bag to transport it easily. Overall, I’d say it’s value for money.

Pros

  • Cheap one
  • Mildew and UV resistant
  • Protects from harmful outdoor elements
  • Adjustable buckles that secure tight
  • Elastic Hem Cord makes it snug
  • 2-year warranty

Cons

  • Not as sturdy as others
  • Isn’t it fully waterproof
  • No instructions to set-up

4. EmpireCovers Aqua Armor Pontoon Boat Cover –

If you are searching for Budge’s alternate, it’s for you. Made from 1200 D polyester material, it offers outstanding protection against all harmful outdoor elements. But still, I won’t recommend it over the Budge cover.

The reason is that it lacks two crucial things – Good Straps and Waterproofing. Many peoples have complained of getting poor-quality straps and buckles that fell off right away. You, however, can stitch them yourself, and they’ll work like a charm.

But the second problem is a bit serious. Even though EmpireCovers claim it to be waterproof, it’s water-resistant as I noticed water coming through the material and the seams. Of course, the water doesn’t flood inside as most fell off, but whatever entered was enough to cause mold.

So, you have to clean the water after rain, which can be overwhelming. So, if you are getting it, I recommend this Waterproofing spray. It makes it fully waterproof and resists the water from entering. It really does a fantastic job; you can check the reviews.

This cover gives you strong tie-downs that keep it secure entirely under the boat. Plus, the heavy-duty shock cord hem makes it snug around the border.

Remember, it’s a shock cord, not the elastic one, so it won’t be as tight as the elastic cords but does the work. Currently, it’s available in three sizes and this blue color.

Pros

  • 1200 D polyester material
  • Straps go down completely
  • Resist dust, dirt, snow, leaves, etc.
  • The shock cord keeps the border snug.

Cons

  • Water-resistant, so water can enter.
  • Isn’t it as tight on the hem

3. Budge 1200 Denier Pontoon Cover –

For quality lovers out, there is this wonderful cover from Budge. It’s best in everything, from quality to look and everything in between; it has always amazed me. Before I talk about the material, let’s commend the beautiful design it has.

Its Blue color looks more like a canvas art that looks stunning. It is made from 1200 D polyester material that makes it sturdy. For the unknown, 1200D is the highest polyester rating that any cover can have. Due to the heavy-duty material, it’s very thick and heavy.

It’s heavy enough to not blow away on low winds when not using any straps. Just by lifting, you’ll realize its quality and life span. Its dense material protects your pontoon from all external factors like water, sun(UV protection), dust, dirt, leaves, snow, etc.

Most other covers offer low to moderate snow protection, but Budge claims to protect against harsh winter, which gives it an upper hand. If you are getting a cover during winters, this one really does the work. Plus, it’s among those covers that actually lasted more than a couple of months(unlike others).

One thing I particularly love here is the extra protection it offers. Like, all the straps are sewn-in while a black grosgrain ribbon covers all the stitching. This extra protection makes them extra durable and avoids ripping. This is actually a game-changer since strap breakage was a common problem.

It offers an elastic hem that keeps it snug on the border and resist it from blowing away in heavy storms. The only problem I had here was UV resistance. Don’t get me wrong, the cover is fully UV resistant, but that black grosgrain ribbon isn’t.

Long sun exposure deteriorates it, which ultimately exposes the stitching. This takes around a year of consistent sun exposure.

Pros

  • Very sturdy material
  • Dense, heavy, and secure
  • Looks fantastic
  • UV, Water, Snow, Dust, etc. protection
  • Elastic hem and straps for securing

Cons

  • Long sun exposure deteriorates the black ribbon

  • COVER STAYS IN PLACE: Our elasticized hem, sewn-in straps and buckles keep your cover in place. Great for trailer use and outdoor storage

2. iCOVER Trailerable Pontoon Boat Cover –

Looking for a decent boat cover withstands quite a lot of abuse while still fitting in the budget? Then I think this cover is the right option. It is made from 300 Denier polyester, which has a special PU coating that makes it corrosion and weatherproof.

Since I have used tons of covers, I know 300 D isn’t that effective. However, this one is really impressive and feels much like 600D(in my experience). The PU coating and double-stitched seams make it waterproof and prevent the water from seeping inside.

The water pooled onto it when it rained but didn’t go inside. The material stretched with that much pressure, but the seams held it pretty well, so I am impressed by the fabric. But I definitely do not suggest keeping it plain; always use the poles to ensure water never stays up.

Otherwise, moisture may ruin the interior inside. One thing that I dislike is that it’s not fully UV resistant(although they say). The harmful UV rays gradually destroy it such that it begins shredding to touch within one year.

That might not happen if you keep it inside for storage. It happened to a couple of people, so I told you such. This cover comes with plenty of adjustable straps that secure it clean. Plus, it also offers an elastic hem cord that makes it snug on the hem.

It resists the cover from blowing away in extreme weather. There are reinforcement panels on most strength stress point that makes it reliable. Overall, I liked it due to its low price and good performance.

Pros

  • Sturdy material
  • Double-stitched seams
  • Water, dust, sand, leave proof.
  • Plenty of straps and elastic hem cord

Cons

  • Not fully UV resistant, so it can rip in a year

1. Vortex New Pontoon/Deck Boat Cover –

Want a pontoon cover that can withstand years of usage? Then Vortex is a familiar name. It is known to make fantastic covers at a budget price. Made from 600D marine-grade canvas, this cover has a double polyurethane coating that adds an extra layer of safety.

The canvas material adds strength, while the PU coating makes it UV, water, and Mildew protected. So, the harmful elements of nature won’t ruin your boat. One thing I recommend is to keep it raised either by poles or Bimini-Tops, whatever you prefer.

If not, the water pools on top and water vapor permeate it. Thankfully, the moisture doesn’t stay in, so Mold and Mildew don’t happen here. This cover is fairly heavy; you can instantly notice that it is strong and will last long.

It’s pretty big and easily reaches below the deck on the sides except for the place where you’ll place your Bimini Top. There, it’ll have around 4” exposed. By using smaller items like a poll, it will be fully covered. Once it’s on, use the 10 straps(5 on each side) to secure it down.

Also, use the handy elastic hem cord for a snug fit. It ensures your cover keeps protecting even on a windy day. Personally, my cover lasted around 3+ years. A couple of my friends have a similar experience, so I strongly recommend it.

Mine one may have lasted longer, but the rat seems to like it. Anyways, it comes with a 5-year warranty, which assures that it indeed is a sturdy cover. It’s also the best pontoon mooring cover.

This cover can fit up to 22′ pontoon, but Vortex also has this for up to 24′ pontoons at almost the same price. So, what are you waiting for?

Pros

  • Sturdy, heavy, and long
  • UV, water, Mildew protected
  • 5-year warranty
  • Plenty of straps and elastic cords for securing
  • Last for years

Cons

  • Nothing I found so far

Important Things To Consider Before Buying –

Best Pontoon Boat Cover- Reviews of the Top 5 Mooring Covers

Pontoon boat covers are a self-effacing investment that prevents fading and oxidizing of the gel coat on your boat. It also keeps your cherished vessel away from cracking wood and prevents it from getting bleached.

They also safeguard your costly equipment from burglary. Therefore, selecting one of the best pontoon boat covers is essential. However, when you search for a pontoon boat cover, you need to be extremely careful with your decision.

It may seem like a simple job, but once you get into the process of picking up a cover, you might realize the various things that need to be considered before making a purchase.

To make an informed choice, you need to keep in mind the significant features of the vessel. Below are a few pointers that need to be considered before buying a pontoon boat cover.

1. Size –

An essential thing to keep in mind while purchasing a cover is the size of the pontoon boat. Because let’s be honest, if the cover is not according to the boat’s measurements, it won’t fit and serve its purpose.

The right cover should fit comfortably to the model of the pontoon boat. If the cover doesn’t fit adequately, dirt and water will get into your boat and potentially ruin it.

So, it’s not worth buying a cheap boat cover or using a universal cover, as you will save a couple of bucks at the expense of running your precious cargo. It is recommended to buy a pontoon cover, which is a little bigger than your boat, for the ease of putting it on.

Basically, the boat cover works better if it is watertight and loose enough to let air pass through. Also, remember to take accurate measurements of your boat.

2. Material –

One of the best ways to safeguard your boat from environmental assault is by using a quality cover made from premium fabric or materials. When looking for a pontoon boat cover, make sure the fabric features a higher denier, is UV-resistant, and is waterproof.

Using a heavy, durable cover for harsher and long-term conditions is vital. Materials like cotton can’t withstand the sun for a long time and often tend to smut.

This is why polyester and acrylic fabric are often considered the best choice. They allow airflow, easily resist the UV rays, and are sturdy enough to handle extreme weather conditions.

3. Color –

Sometimes color becomes a vital factor that most buyers prioritize before making any purchase. Most people choose to buy covers that will complement their boats.

Further, many people prefer dark color covers as they have greater UV resistance, low percentage glare, hides dirt and smudges, and are long-lasting.

Alternately light color cover reflects lights to create a cool environment under the canvas. Moreover, they provide an airy atmosphere and better visibility at night.

Basically, both light and dark colors come with certain benefits, so while choosing your pontoon boat canopy, purchase the one which fits your needs.

FAQs –

How to Measure The Pontoon Boat For A Cover?

While purchasing a pontoon boat cover, it is incredibly crucial to have accurate measurements. If you acquire incorrect dimensions, it can lead to premature wear and poor performance.

An inappropriate cover would cause frustration when you try to put it on, provide improper coverage, and slip off in high-wind weather. Therefore, it is essential to measure your boat correctly to make the right purchase.

While measuring for boat cover, find the length and width of your pontoon boat. To find the length, simply measure from the bow to the stern, and if you see anything projecting past the stern (other than a motor or motor leg), add it to the overall length.

On the other hand, to calculate the width, measure the beamwidth of the pontoon boat. Measure in a straight line and don’t include removable items or bumper.

What Is Considered The Best Fabric For A Pontoon Boat Cover?

A critical thing to check out while buying a boat cover is the material it is made of. Polyester is considered an excellent choice because of its UV and water resistance, abrasion, good breathability, reasonable cost, and long lifespan.

Another thing to keep in mind while buying a canopy is to examine how it is stitched together. Hand sewing makes for a great boat canopy. Moreover, the fabric should be double-stitched for wear and tear use, and featured drawcords should be elastic.

What Should Be the Denier Of A Pontoon Boat Cover?

Denier is a measurement unit that determines the thickness of the material or fabric. A high denier count would indicate that the fabric would be thick, while a low count points out that it would be soft, sheer, and silky.

Most pontoon boat cover fabrics are made of 300D, 600D, and 1200D. Hence, these boat covers would be stronger, durable, and more water and heat-resistant.

Conclusion –

Every day boats endure a series of humidity and temperature changes, putting them under the threat of damage. No one desires their precious cargo to get hurt, especially when they have spent thousands of bucks on it.

To safeguard and use your pontoon boat for a long time, you need to invest in superior quality covers. We have listed some of the best pontoon boat covers available in the market for your benefit. Make the right choice and enjoy boating for a long time.
